Omni Roast

the name Mugumo honors the sacred Mugumo tree growing beside the farm. in Kikuyu tradition, the Mugumo tree is revered, a place of prayer and sacrifice, and never to be cut. cherries for this lot were harvested exclusively from trees growing closest to this iconic tree, and the cup’s striking brightness and precision inspired its name.

in the cup, this SL28 is juicy definition and deep sweetness: ripe plum bursts into the scene, followed by redcurrant and blackcurrant, wrapped in a honeyed depth that lingers long after the sip. florals sit high and clean with the cup finishing bright and sweet. a Kenyan for the history books.

resting our coffees

cafēn coffees are roasted to order. in the days that follow, freshly roasted coffee continues to evolve. as carbon dioxide gradually releases, the coffee begins to truly open up - harsh, roasty, or astringent notes soften, allowing a sweeter, cleaner, and more expressive cup to emerge.

resting gives the coffee space for its true character to shine.

we recommend resting our coffees for at least 14 days after the roast date. denser or high-elevation lots often reach their peak between 3 to 6 weeks.

process

this SL28 lot undergoes a meticulous slight-wash process (where some mucilage remains on the bean) designed to maximize clarity, structure and encourage a more uniform fermentation. cherries are carefully hand-sorted through flotation, followed by an overnight soak to ensure uniform fermentation. a controlled 30-hour fermentation enhances complexity before the coffee is laid on raised beds for slow, even drying.

producer

Ngacha Coffee Estate is a family-run farm in Kirinyaga, established in 1954 and now led by the second generation of the founding family. the estate spans 7.5 acres within an 11-acre farm and is planted primarily with SL28 and SL34, with coffees often separated by single varietal as well as single-tree and single-grade selections. alongside careful fieldwork and selective harvesting, Ngacha has developed a wide processing programme at the estate, producing washed coffees (including double-fermented washed), honeys, mosto naturals, anaerobic washed, and inoculated anaerobic naturals, all aimed at showcasing clarity, sweetness, and distinct expression, lot by lot.
